Keen to add some colour to your abode, but can’t face the prospect of picking up a brush and roller? Or perhaps you’re a tenant and not allowed to change the colour scheme. The good news is the personality of each of your rooms needn’t reflect the neutrality of their shell. Here’s how to bring your home into today’s colour palette without going near a paintbrush.

Start big
Instead of a feature wall, invest in a feature suite in a shade reminiscent of the 2020 colour forecast. Then you can build your room – and accent colours – around it.

If an entire suite of Master Blue, Red Rebel or Orangeade is too much, go for one item – a feature sofa, armchair or ottoman.

The same goes for dining. Contrast one or two feature seats against a beautiful white or timber centrepiece table, or add a rainbow of cushion pads for a contemporary pop of colour.

Think big with accessories
An instant splash of colour can come from the smallest of items – in the most distant of hideaways. Match a turquoise vase on a bookshelf with a throw across the room in the same shade.

And all that gorgeous Purple Palace lampshade needs is a couple of cushions in the same hue on the sofa below. Or a rug featuring – but not necessarily dominating – a splash of a similar shade.

Punctuate lounge suites, chairs and the bedroom with colourful cushions or throws. These could reflect an accent in a nearby artwork or your indoor plants.
