The days are suddenly shorter, the mornings a little crisper. Winter may be beckoning, but that’s no reason to shut the blinds and dim the lights – just yet. To prep your home for the impending chill, try our top tips.

Set the tone
Our winters can be characterised by brilliant blue skies and warm, sun-drenched living areas. If your home is partial to a little winter sun, keep that light flooding in. This may mean repositioning seating to make the most of the lower sun. Or adding mirrors and metallic accents to reflect and bounce the different light. Continue to bring the outside in with vibrant colours that will brighten your day even when it’s cold out. If bolds are too much for the winter months, replace your cool neutrals with a warm hue such as millennial pink, teal or terracotta.

Cosy up
For an easy winter transformation, add warmth with layers and textures. Keep it as simple as adding more throws and cushions – wool, velvet, cashmere, faux fur. Or make it more opulent with warming rugs or sheepskins, seasonal colours and layers in the bedroom, and plush curtains.

Embrace the season
Complete your winter sanctuary with the natural warmth of wood. Be it a new dining table, cabinetry or a stylish centrepiece of twigs and pine cones, accessorising with wood may just evoke the warmth of a cosy alpine retreat. Add flickering candlelight and you won’t want to set foot outside for days.
